Bonfield lays out reorganization
DURHAM -- City Manager Tom Bonfield has announced a reorganization of his government's upper ranks that will require the hiring of a third deputy manager, a shuffling of assignments and big changes in Durham's transportation office.

School board approves Y deal
DURHAM -- Durham Public Schools Board of Education members approved the development agreement for the Lakewood YMCA Thursday. The agreement featured minor changes from the agreement originally presented earlier in the month. The county may not immediately convey the property to the school system after renovation takes place and the YMCA will be the provider for the afterschool program for DPS students in the new secondary school that will be housed at the facility. Also the YMCA will lease the facility for 17 years rather than 15.

NC Live offerings
DURHAM -- NC Live, the state's online library collaborative, has licenses for or links to nearly 100 different types of resources. They in turn lead users to 50,000 different books, magazines, newspapers and other information sources. Here's a selection of some of NC Live's most interesting and useful offerings:

DURHAM -- Durham County Library has its own collection of licensed databases for local users. While it isn't as comprehensive as the one available through the statewide NC Live collaborative, Durham's electronic catalogue boasts some impressive features. Here's a sample:

DURHAM -- Fire displaced a family and left a firefighter slightly injured during a Wednesday morning blaze that heavily damaged a house at 518 N. Guthrie Ave. in East Durham, fire officials said.
Police seek break-in thief
DURHAM -- Police are trying to identify a man who broke into a vehicle and stole a purse Oct. 19 in the parking lot of the ABC store at 1930 Holloway Street. The victim's stolen bank cards have been used several times.

DURHAM -- Light streams through two giant windows into a loft apartment across from the SunTrust building in downtown. Inside, a safe dating from 1880 sits there, too heavy to move during a recent renovation, and owner Scott Donner says playfully: "It could be a wet bar maybe? That would be really great to have."

Duke cites need for expanded center
DURHAM -- Duke University Health System has filed a certificate of need with the state of North Carolina for construction of a proposed 265,000-square-foot cancer center that would expand and consolidate Duke's comprehensive outpatient cancer services and research facilities.
