BARBEE

DURHAM - Bill Barbee died peacefully Saturday evening at Duke Medical Center following a courageous six month battle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late Charles Wesley Barbee and Lillie Rhodes Barbee. of Durham.
He resided at the family homeplace on Ellis Road, where he grew up. He graduated Durham High School and attended North Carolina State University. He served two terms in the U.S. Navy, both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. His work as a Nuclear Pipe Coordinator took him many places in the United States. Upon retirement, he returned home and taught part-time at Durham Technical Community College.
He was a life-long sports fan favoring all ACC teams, especially Duke men's and women's basketball.
He is survived by two daughters, Shannon Barbee Harris and husband David and their sons Zachary and Daniel of Wake Forest, and Rose Marie Barbee Thomas and husband Charles and their sons Charles William and David James of Coral Springs, Florida; former wife Lutrell Oliver Teague of Coral Springs, Florida; two sisters, Helen Barbee Higgins and Louise Barbee Noel, both of Durham; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Mary Clay Carpenter, of Huntersville.
Mr. Barbee was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Wesley Barbee Jr., also of Durham.
A special sentiment of gratitude is extended to the compassionate team of caregivers at Duke Medical Center and Hillcrest Nursing Center who provided him daily comfort and care during these last several weeks.
A funeral service of worship will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Howerton & Bryan Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Graham McChesney. The body will be interred in the family plot at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of his sister, Louise Noel, at 1009 West Trinity Avenue.

BLACKERBY

SHREWSBURY, MASS. - David Coleman Blackerby, 57, of Shrewsbury, Mass., passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Donovan Blackerby; daughter, Doreen Blackerby Hogan; one son, Bryan D. Blackerby. He is also survived by his parents, William Carroll Blackerby and Martha Coleman Blackerby; his brothers, Dr. William Carroll Blackerby, Stephen Michael Blackerby, Richard Blackerby; sister, Paige Blackerby Turner.
He was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving as a Field Officer and Army Aviator. Upon retiring from the Army he joined the Caterpillar Tractor Company and has been employed as vice president of Powers Systems for Milton CAT in Milford for 25 years.
He was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church.
Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, October 6, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough, Mass. Burial will be at West Point Cemetery at the U.S. Military Academy on October 14.

CREEDMOOR - Frances Whitfield Clements, 88, a former resident of Creedmoor, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Carver Living Center.
A native of Granville County, the daughter of the late Hugh Lyon and Zela Tingen Whitfield. She was a member of Creedmoor United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2008, in Carolina Memorial Gardens by the Rev Bob Hagerty.
Surviving are a brother, Maurice T. Whitfield and three nephews, Randy, John and Jeff Whitfield.
Visitation will follow the graveside service.

OXFORD - James Parham Daniel Sr., 83, of 107 West Quailridge Road, Oxford, formerly of 605 24th Street, Butner, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter on October 6, 2008. Mr. Daniel was born June 11, 1925, to Croswell Turner Daniel and Kate Parham Daniel, of Oxford. He retired in 1995 from Daniels' Army Surplus of Butner, the business he founded and passed on to his son.
Mr. Daniel is survived ay his loving wife of 60 years, Mildred Register Daniel; three children, Kathryn Daniel Bradley, of Oxford, James P. Daniel Jr. and wife, Pam, of Butner, Jeffrey M. Daniel, of Apex and Ellen Vaughan Daniel, of Cary; four grandchildren, Jason G. Wood, of Raleigh, Chip Bradley, of Apex, and Philip and Susan Daniel, of Butner. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. C.T. Daniel Jr.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Eakes Funeral Home, 106 Clement Avenue, Oxford and at other times at the home of Kathy Bradley, 107 West Quailridge Road, Oxford.

DURHAM - Lynda Berini Glenn passed peacefully Saturday evening, October 4, 2008 in her Durham home.
Lynda is survived by her husband, James B. Glenn; sons, A. John Glenn and A. Jason Glenn; brother, Dante C. Berini; and sister, Gina Berini Smudski.

DURHAM - Mr. Willard Kenneth Griffiths, 70, passed away peacefully at home Friday morning. Mr. Griffiths retired from IBM after 30 years of service.

DURHAM - Durham native and lifelong resident Jeannette Wood Harris, 73, died Wednesday, October 1. She was an active member of Durham Woman's Club, Durham Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Iota Sorority and the Willing Workers Class at Grey Stone Baptist Church. She also served 15 years in the Durham Soil and Water Conservation District. An avid animal lover, she supported numerous causes on their behalf.
Surviving family includes sister, Cynthia Wood Barrow, of Wallace; sister-in-law, Corlis Wood, of Durham; step daughter, Jan Harris of Durham; nephew, Howard Wood, of Durham; niece, Charlene Foley, of Durham; niece, Kelly Barrow, of Raleigh; niece, Brianne Barrow Little, of Washington, DC; niece, Lindley Barrow, of Wallace; as well as a great nephew and niece. She was predeceased by her husband, John Brame Harris, her parents, Charlie T. and Helen K. Wood and brother, Larry T. Wood.

DURHAM - Mr. Robert Lee Justice passed away peacefully at Durham Regional Hospital on October 3, 2008. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Scarborough and Hargett Funeral Home with the family receiving friends beginning at 12 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Glenview Memorial Gardens.

BUFFALO JUNCTION, VA. - Mr. Charles Paul Lutz, 73, died Saturday, October 4, 2008, at MeadowView Terrace. He served in the U.S. ARmy and worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
A funeral mass will be said at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, of which he was a member, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Charles is survived by his partner, James McAree; and brother, George Joseph Lutz.

ROXBORO - Jennie Zelle W. Morrow, 86, died Sunday, October 5, 2008, at the Roxboro Nursing Center after declining health.
Mrs. Morrow is survived by nine children, Gloria M. Oakley, Fern M. Riggs, David E. Morrow Sr., Rita M. Popp, James L. Morrow Jr., Phillip Craig Morrow, Deborah M. Bowes, Donna M. Carver and Anthony Scott Morrow.

SANFORD - Frank Hancock Pruette, 84, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at home.
He was a WWII veteran. During his service he received Four Battle Stars, an Infantry Combat Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart.
Frank worked for Carolina Power and Light Company. In addition, Frank was a past president of the Sanford Chamber of Commerce. Frank was a member of First Baptist Church in Sanford.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Hardison Pruette; daughter, Meg Peet Averett; son, Frank Hancock Pruette Jr.; sisters, Mrs. Betsy Pruette Bost, and Mrs. Peggy Pruette Mangum.
Burial will be held at Buffalo Church Cemetery in Sanford at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. A Service of the Celebration of the Resurrection of Life will be held at 2 p.m. following the burial at the First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the service .
